Sniffing Out Poachers

This is so exciting!!! According to "Cesar's Way" June 2012 issue...

"In the 1980's, more than 3,000 elephants roamed the vast Virunga national Park in Africa's Democratic Republic of Congo. Now there are fewer than 4000. The reason: poachers, who kill them for their tusks. To combat the poachers, who have killed more than 150 park rangers in the past decade, authorities have imported five Bloodhounds from Switzerland. Their job: following the sent of an elephant carcass to track down it's killers. After one recent killing, says Emanual de Merode, chief warden at Virunga, Africa's oldest national park, rangers brought in two of the hounds, named Dody and Lilly. Using a bone from the carcass as a sent item, the rangers and Bloodhounds set off, tracing the ivory to a group of poachers in a small village. "We are extremely pleased with the outcome." says de Merode."
